Washing Machine Repair in Dún Laoghaire & the South Coast

From Booterstown down the coast to Dalkey — period houses, older machines kept running for years, and soft Vartry water. This is a repair-first part of Dublin, and we treat it that way.

Our south coast round covers Dún Laoghaire town, Blackrock, Booterstown, Monkstown, Glasthule, Sandycove, Dalkey and the fringe of Killiney, and inland to Sallynoggin and Ballybrack — the A96 and A94 side of south Dublin. We are based on O'Connell Street in Dublin 1 and we run this coast as a regular round, not an occasional trip. Booking and pricing work the same here as everywhere we cover: the call-out is €79, credited in full against the repair, most repairs are €149–€249, and major work — bearings, a motor or a PCB — is €279–€420, with a fixed written price before work starts and no second call-out charge. See the main washing machine repair Dublin page and the cost guide for the detail. Prices checked November 2026.

The housing reality on this coast

The housing here is a mix you do not get elsewhere in Dublin: period houses on the roads behind the seafront, long-resident owners who have kept the same machine running for years, and coastal apartment blocks from Blackrock to Dún Laoghaire town. The plumbing in the older houses is older too, and machines are often plumbed into tight corners of sculleries and extensions. The service consequence is simple: this is the repair-first area. People here would rather fix a sound machine than replace it, and they are usually right to. So the honest repair or replace conversation matters more on this round than anywhere — and when a machine genuinely is not worth fixing, we say so, you pay only the €79, and the verdict is in writing. We have worked this way since 1999, and our work carries a 1-year workmanship warranty.

Soft water — and what actually fails here

This coast is normally supplied by the Vartry and Ballymore blend, soft at around 75 mg/L. That makes it the anti-limescale coast: heating elements here are not being eaten by hard water the way they are in the hard-water parts of the county. So the local fault pattern is different. What we see on this round is seals perishing, bearings wearing out, and corrosion helped along by damp coastal air and salt — machines near the seafront, in houses that sit closed up or run cold in winter, suffer for the damp more than for the water. If you want to check your own supply, our water hardness guide works it out by Eircode.

Along the DART line

The round follows the coast the way the DART does — Salthill & Monkstown, Seapoint, and Dún Laoghaire's Mallin station, with the harbour and the East Pier as the landmarks everyone gives directions by. Dún Laoghaire town itself, around George's Street, still has a market-town feel: family homes behind the main street, flats above shops, and older terraces where the machine is in an outhouse or a lean-to. Dalkey and Killiney bring bigger houses and utility rooms; Sallynoggin and Ballybrack bring estates where we might do three machines on the one road in a week. Knowing which is which — parking, access, the age of the plumbing — is half the job, and it is a round we know street by street. It also means we carry the seals, hoses and fittings this coast actually needs on the van, rather than parts for faults that belong to the hard-water side of the county.

Rentals on the coast

The highest rents in the RTB index are along this coast, and tenancies here come with high expectations to match. When a machine fails in a Dalkey or Monkstown rental, the agent needs it attended to quickly and needs the paperwork right — a written report, a proper invoice, a clear verdict. That is exactly how our account work runs, and agents can set it up through our letting agents & property managers page. For landlords, remember the duty under Regulation 7 of the Housing (Standards for Rented Houses) Regulations 2019: a machine you provided must be kept in good working order, unless it is the tenant's own machine or the damage is misuse.

Commonest faults on this coast

  • Mouldy door seals: damp coastal homes and machines left closed between washes grow mould on the seal — see smells & mouldy seal. A drain pump fault, for comparison, is €149–€199 and a heating element €179–€249, though elements fail far less often on this soft-water coast.
  • Bearings: a machine that roars on the spin is telling you the bearings are going; that is major work at €279–€420, and the repair-or-replace call depends on the age and make of the machine.
  • Leaks: perished seals and corroded fittings, often slow drips that have marked a floor before anyone notices.

The round covers the whole coast: Booterstown, Blackrock, Monkstown, Glasthule, Sandycove, Dún Laoghaire town, Dalkey and the Killiney fringe, plus Sallynoggin and Ballybrack inland — A96 and A94.

Yes. That is most of our work on this coast. If a repair does not make sense, you pay only the €79 call-out and you get the verdict in writing, so you can replace the machine with a clear head. If it is worth fixing, you get a fixed written price first.

This coast is normally supplied by the Vartry and Ballymore blend at around 75 mg/L, which is soft. Elements rarely fail from limescale here. The usual culprits on this round are seals, bearings and corrosion from damp coastal air.

Bearings are major work and fall in the €279–€420 band, depending on the make and model. Whether that is worth spending depends on the machine's age and condition, and we will talk that through honestly before you commit — the call-out is €79 either way, credited in full if you go ahead.

Yes. Agents place account work with us across Dublin, including this coast: one named contact, a written report with photos after every visit, and direct invoicing. Our letting agents page sets out how accounts run.
