AEG machines sit in the better-kept kitchens of Dublin: ProSense models that weigh the load and adjust the wash, ProSteam machines in homes in Ranelagh, Clontarf and Dundrum where the owners bought once and bought well. Electrolux-badged machines are the same group engineering under the parent name, common in quality rentals and in homes fitted out by developers who specified a named brand. Both badges share their platform with Zanussi — see our Zanussi repair page — and that group sharing is the single most useful fact about repairing them. We have covered them on our washing machine repair Dublin round since 1999.
The AEG and Electrolux faults we fix most
- Drain pumps. The E20 family fault below is, nine times out of ten, a blocked filter or a worn pump. Pump replacement is €149–€199, same band as most brands.
- Control boards. Dead machines, odd behaviour, cycles stopping for no clear reason. Board work is a major at €279–€420, and on these machines the board itself is priced above budget-brand boards — we test everything the board drives before quoting for one.
- Bearings. A spin that has grown from a hum to a roar over months. AEG drums are built well, so a bearing job on a sound machine is often worth doing, but it is long labour and sits in the major band.
- Heating and steam-side faults. Lukewarm washes and very long cycles point to the element. Homes normally supplied by Bog of the Ring at around 336 mg/L in north Fingal scale fastest; blended D12 and D22 supplies at around 155 mg/L sit in the middle.
The E20 drain family — shared with Zanussi
E20 is the drain code family across the Electrolux group. On an AEG or Electrolux display, E20 (and its close relations) means the machine has not emptied the drum in the time allowed. The cause list is the same one Zanussi owners meet: a pump filter full of hair, coins and lint, a kinked or blocked drain hose, or a pump that has worn out. There is no separate E20 code page on this site, so here is the plain version: drain the machine safely if you can, clean the filter, and if the code comes back on the next wash with a clean filter, the pump needs replacing. The general checks in our not draining guide apply word for word, and the related water-level family is covered on our Zanussi E30 page, because the group shares that logic too. A machine that fills but will not heat is a different fault — see machine not heating.
Parts reality in Ireland — honest and a step dearer
Group parts help: pumps, elements, locks and seals are shared across AEG, Electrolux and Zanussi lines, so availability in Ireland is good and the everyday parts are fairly priced. Where these brands cost more is boards, displays and model-specific parts, which are priced above Beko or Hotpoint equivalents and occasionally come from EU stock in a few days. We fit genuine parts where the price is fair and tell you plainly when a part is dear before you agree anything. No second call-out charge if a part is ordered and we return to fit it.
What happens on the visit
Ring 645 465-6305 with the model number and the code on the display. On group machines the code family tells us where to start, and the engineer tests in that order — filter and pump before board, always — so you are not quoted a major for a minor fault. The fixed written price is agreed before work starts and the repair carries a 1-year workmanship warranty. A note for AEG owners in apartments: ProSteam and other plumbed models that leak should be isolated at the stopcock straight away, because a slow leak under a fitted kitchen does quiet damage for weeks before it shows. If the drum will not turn at all, the checks in our drum not turning guide are the same ones we run on the visit. And for landlords who fitted AEG or Electrolux in a better rental: the rented housing standards put the machine's upkeep on you, prompt repair protects a higher rent, and we copy letting agents on invoices and written verdicts as a matter of routine. These are machines bought to be kept, and with group parts behind them, keeping them is normally the right call.
