Hoover machines turn up everywhere in Dublin: in rented houses where the landlord wanted a decent mid-range machine, in family homes in Tallaght, Clondalkin and Blanchardstown, and in apartments where a Hoover washer-dryer was the builder's fit. Candy is the sister badge — Candy Bianca and Grando machines went into plenty of new builds and rentals because they were keenly priced with big drums. If your machine says either name on the front, this is your page. Our main washing machine repair Dublin round covers both every week, and we have traded since 1999.
One group, shared parts — the fact that matters
Hoover and Candy are both part of the Candy Hoover Group, now owned by Haier. That is not trivia: the two badges share platforms, pumps, door locks and electronics across a lot of models. A pump fitted to a Candy often fits the Hoover built on the same platform, which keeps parts prices sensible and availability good in Ireland. It also means a fault pattern we learn on one badge usually applies to the other, so diagnosis is quicker and you are not paying for guesswork.
The Hoover and Candy faults we fix most
- Door interlocks. The door clicks, the light flashes, and the wash never starts — or the machine pauses and will not unlock. Interlocks work hard in shared and rented homes and they are a standard, economical fix.
- Drain pumps. A machine full of water that hums but will not empty is usually a tired pump or a filter blocked with hair, coins and lint. See our machine not draining guide for the safe filter check.
- Bearings on hard-worked rental machines. Rentals do load after load, often overloaded. Bearings go rumbling on spin, then roaring. That is a major job at €279–€420 and we will price it against the age of the machine honestly.
- Heating elements and limescale. Washes getting longer and coming out lukewarm point to the element. Homes normally supplied by Leixlip at around 200 mg/L, and harder still around Bog of the Ring at around 336 mg/L in north Fingal, scale elements faster than soft-water homes on Ballymore Eustace water at around 50 mg/L.
Error codes on Hoover and Candy machines
These machines show simple E-codes. E02 is a fill problem — check the tap and hose first. E03 is the drain code, pointing at the filter, pump or drain hose, and it is the code behind most of our calls; the checks in our not draining guide apply directly. Later codes cover door lock and motor faults. There is no separate code page on this site for Hoover codes, so read the code off the display, note it down, and tell us when you book — it helps us bring the right part first time. A machine that will not spin at all may also be covered by our machine will not spin guide.
Parts reality in Ireland
Good, with one honest caveat. Pumps, interlocks, elements, belts and seals for current and recent Hoover and Candy models are stocked in Ireland and we carry the common ones. Because the group shares platforms, a part is rarely unique to one model. Older Candy models can be patchier — the odd board or trim part may need ordering from EU stock and take a few days. We fit genuine parts where the price is fair and quality pattern parts where they make sense, and we tell you which you are getting before the fixed written price is agreed. No second call-out charge if a part has to be ordered and we return to fit it.
What happens on the visit — and the rental question
Ring 645 465-6305 with the model number from inside the door if you can find it. That number tells us the platform, and the platform tells us which pump and lock to put on the van, so most Hoover and Candy jobs are finished on the first visit. The engineer tests the machine, gives you the fixed written price, and only then starts work — no open-ended labour clock, and a 1-year workmanship warranty on the repair when it is done. In a rented home, the bill normally sits with the landlord: under the rented housing standards, the landlord provides the washing machine and keeps it working, unless the fault was misuse. Tenants should report the code to the letting agent early, while the drum is not yet full of sour water; landlords and agents can book us direct and we will arrange access with the tenant and copy the agent on the invoice. One more Dublin point: in an apartment, a leaking Hoover or Candy is not a wait-and-see job. Water through the floor is the ceiling of the flat below, so isolate the machine at the stopcock, mop up what you can, and ring the same day.
