LG machines have a loyal following in Dublin, and it is easy to see why. The direct-drive motor does away with the drive belt, runs quietly and gives a smooth, fast spin, which matters in apartments and open-plan homes where the washer sits close to living space. LG drums are generous too, so family laundry, duvets and sports clothes go through in fewer loads. When an LG does fault, it usually tells you plainly with a two-letter code. Our washing machine repair in Dublin team knows those codes inside out.
LG machines we repair
We see the full Dublin spread: standard 8kg and 9kg direct-drive models in terraced and semi-detached homes, larger Steam models in family houses, slim-depth machines squeezed into apartment utility cupboards and hot press conversions, and LG washer-dryers where space is at a premium. Because there is no belt to wear, LG faults tend to concentrate on the pump, the inlet side, the door lock and the electronics rather than mechanical drive parts, although bearings and suspension still wear with age and heavy use.
The LG codes explained
OE - drain error
OE means the water is not leaving the drum fast enough. The filter at the front bottom corner is the first suspect: hair, coins, buttons, lint and soap residue collect there, especially in homes washing dog blankets, work clothes and kids socks. Our full guide to LG error OE shows how to drain the machine safely through the small hose and clean the filter without flooding the floor. If OE returns with a clean filter, the drain pump is failing and needs replacement, as covered in our not draining fault guide.
IE - inlet error
IE means the machine is not filling to the right level in time. It can be as simple as a tap not fully open or a kinked hose after the machine was pushed back, or it can be a scaled inlet valve. Homes normally supplied by Leixlip, at around 200 mg/L hardness, see inlet filters choke faster than homes on softer Ballymore Eustace water at around 50 mg/L. Context matters, which is why we ask for your Eircode routing key when you book.
UE and uE - balance error
LG shows uE while it tries to rebalance and UE when it gives up. One heavy item absorbing water, like a rug or a single duvet, is the classic trigger. Persistent UE on ordinary loads of clothes points to worn dampers, a stretched drum support or bearing wear. The washer protects your fabrics and itself by refusing full spin speed, so loads come out dripping.
Direct-drive motor faults
The direct-drive motor itself is durable, and LG has long promoted extended motor cover, but the hall sensor, stator and main board that control it can fail. Symptoms include a drum that jerks, will not turn at all, or turns in wash but not spin. We test the motor windings and sensor before quoting, because guessing at board level gets expensive. Full price context is on our Dublin repair costs page.
Parts, the Right to Repair, and honest advice
LG pumps, locks, valves, elements and seals are well stocked in Ireland. Boards and motor components are available, sometimes on a few days lead time from EU warehouses. From 31 July 2026 the EU Right to Repair applies in Ireland, requiring parts availability for five to ten years and preventing a manufacturer from refusing support because an independent repairer worked on the machine before. We are independent repairers, we say so plainly, and our guarantee is given in writing on every job.
