Miele machines live in a particular kind of Dublin home: the long-owned house in Blackrock, Foxrock, Rathgar or Clontarf where the owner bought the best machine they could and expects it to last. And it does — Miele designs its machines to a 20-year service life, with a cast-iron counterweight, a stainless drum and build quality you can feel in the door hinge. When a Miele finally faults, often at twelve or fifteen years old, the question is never really whether it can be fixed. It is whether the parts bill makes sense — and on a Miele, it usually does. We repair them across Dublin on our main washing machine repair Dublin round, as an independent repairer, trading since 1999.
The Miele faults we see
- Drain pumps. Even a Miele pump wears out, usually after well over a decade of service. The fault presents like any other — standing water, a cycle that will not finish — and our not draining guide covers the checks. The pump itself is a Miele part at a Miele price.
- Control boards and displays. Dead machines and erratic behaviour on older W-series machines. Board work is a major, and on a Miele the part price is the story — we quote the exact part cost in the fixed written price before any work.
- Bearings — a long labour job. Miele bearings are professional-grade work: the job takes longer than on a budget machine because of how the machine is built. It sits at the top of the €279–€420 major band, and we will tell you the expected hours honestly.
- Heating elements. Less common in the soft-water south — homes normally supplied by Vartry and Ballymore at around 75 mg/L or Ballymore Eustace at around 50 mg/L are kind to elements — but age gets there in the end. Element replacement is €179–€249.
Parts reality — cost more, sometimes days away
Here is the plain truth we give every Miele owner. Common service parts — pumps, seals, hoses — are available in Ireland but priced above every other brand on this site. Less common parts, including some boards and model-specific items, are ordered from Germany and take days, not hours. Anyone who promises you a next-day Miele board without checking stock is guessing. We check availability and lead time first, give you both in writing with the fixed price, and there is no second call-out charge when we return to fit an ordered part. We fit genuine Miele parts on these machines; pattern parts are rarely the right call at this level.
The repair-or-replace maths is different here
On a budget machine, a €279–€420 major repair can be half the price of a new machine, and replacement starts to look sensible. A new Miele starts at €999 and rises well beyond it. A major repair at €279–€420 on a machine designed for twenty years, with a sound drum, cabinet and motor, is a third or less of replacement cost — and the repaired Miele will very likely outlast a new mid-range machine bought instead. That is why Miele is the brand where we most often advise repair, even for the big jobs. Work through the framework on our repair or replace guide and the Dublin cost guide, and we will apply it to your machine's age and condition on the visit.
What happens on the visit
Ring 645 465-6305 and, if you can, read us the model and serial numbers from the plate inside the door. On a Miele those numbers matter more than on any other brand, because the parts list is model-specific and we would rather check German stock before the visit than discover a lead time during it. The engineer diagnoses, prices the exact part, and gives you a fixed written price that includes the honest lead time if a part is coming from Germany. You decide with the full picture in front of you — that is the whole point of how we work. If the drum will not turn or the machine will not spin, the checks in our drum not turning and will not spin guides show the order we test in. One reassurance for owners of older machines: a Miele that has been serviced and kept — door seal wiped, filter cleaned, not overloaded — is exactly the machine these repairs were designed for, and age alone has never been our reason to write one off.
