Washing Machine Error Codes, by Brand

A code on the display is a starting point, not a diagnosis. Find your brand and code below for what it usually means, what you can safely check yourself, and what the fix costs with us in Dublin.

First, the honest caveat, in plain words: a code names a fault family, not a guaranteed fix. Two machines showing the same code can need different parts. A drain code can be a blocked filter, a failed pump or a pressure fault. A leak code can be a split hose or a failed seal. Models vary too, even within one brand, and older displays can show a code slightly differently. That is why we test at the machine before we quote, and why you always get a fixed written price before any work starts.

Brand pages: Bosch, Samsung, LG and Hotpoint & Indesit. If the symptom matters more than the code, start from the fault itself on our faults hub.

What to do before you ring

  1. Take a photo of the display. Codes can clear when the power goes off, and the photo saves guesswork.
  2. Note the brand and model. The model number is usually inside the door rim or on the door frame.
  3. Do not keep restarting a leak code. With E23 and any sign of water underneath, switch off at the plug and turn the tap off. Restarting does not clear a leak.
  4. Note where it stopped. Full of water, empty, mid-spin, at the start — that detail points us to the right test.
  5. Leave the machine as it is. Do not force the door and do not tip the machine up.

What a repair costs

Our call-out is €79, credited in full against the repair. Most repairs are €149–€249 all-in, and major repairs such as bearings, motor or main PCB are €279–€420. If the machine is not worth fixing, you pay only the €79 and you get the verdict in writing. There is no second call-out charge, and every repair carries a 1-year workmanship warranty. If it finishes the wash and the code does not come back, note the code and keep an eye on it. If it repeats, stops mid-cycle, or there is any sign of leaking, book a visit. A repeating code means the fault is still there, even on the days it clears.

No, and anyone who does is guessing. A code names a fault family — a drain code, for example, can be a filter, a pump or a pressure fault. We test at the machine, then give you a fixed written price before any work starts.

A reset can clear the display, but it does not fix the cause. If the code returns on the next wash, the fault is real. With a leak code such as Bosch E23, do not restart the machine at all — switch off, turn the tap off and ring us.
